Laurel Grove North Cemetery

Savannah

What you'll hear here: about a minute on Laurel Grove North Cemetery — the story behind what you're looking at, playing hands-free as you arrive.

Laurel Grove North Cemetery lies in midtown Savannah. It was the original Laurel Grove burial ground for white residents, paired with Laurel Grove South, set aside for enslaved people and free people of color. Among its many graves lie countless Confederate veterans of the Civil War.

The cemetery was dedicated in 1852, with the lawyer and poet Henry Rootes Jackson delivering the address.
