Picture this building's earlier life as the Earle W. Newton Center for British American Studies — in 2002 it became the SCAD Museum of Art, part of the Savannah College of Art and Design. Its permanent collection runs to more than 4,500 pieces, spanning haute couture, drawings, painting, sculpture, photography, and prints. This is a teaching museum, serving SCAD students alongside the wider community.
At its heart is the Walter O. Evans Center for African American Studies, devoted to African American culture, art, and literature, complemented by the André Leon Talley Gallery — named for the Vogue contributing editor and SCAD trustee.
