Johnson Square holds your view of the Nathanael Greene Monument, honoring a general of the American Revolution. Designed by William Strickland, its cornerstone was laid in 1825, though the monument wasn't completed until 1830 — at first it honored both Greene and fellow general Casimir Pulaski. It became solely Greene's in 1853, when two bronze plaques were added, and in 1902 Greene's body was reinterred beneath it.
