Broadway Avenue runs through Automobile Alley, where the heritage buildings that once housed the city's automobile dealerships now shelter bars, restaurants, shops, and homes. Around you are the low and mid-rise heritage buildings that once housed the city’s automobile dealerships; their facades now shelter many of the city’s top bars and restaurants, retail shops, and urban residences. The district is listed in the National Register of neighborhoods, a recognition of the history built into these blocks.
Automobile Alley was primarily developed as a commercial district just north of downtown, and in the 1920s A‑Alley became a popular auto row. More recently, change has continued: Volvo of Oklahoma City, the last original auto dealership here, moved in 2019 to 14220 N Broadway Extension beside Mercedes of Oklahoma City, which had relocated from Automobile Alley in 2018. In 2020 Tesla opened a showroom and repair facilities in the former Volvo space, bringing auto sales back to Automobile Alley even though Tesla is not a traditional dealership.
Down the block, Tesla's showroom fills the space Volvo left in 2019, so this old auto row still sells cars, just not the way it did in the 1920s.
