Twenty-one stops walk Little Rock from the Clinton Presidential Center to Central High School. The William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum opens the route; the Clinton School of Public Service in an 1899 Choctaw Route Station depot and the River Market District along the Arkansas River carry the riverfront. SoMa's ESSE Purse Museum, the Historic Arkansas Museum, the Tower Building of the Little Rock Arsenal, and the Old State House (the oldest surviving state capitol west of the Mississippi) hold MacArthur Park and downtown. The Capital Hotel's 1876 Victorian front, the Gus Blass Department Store, and the 40-story Metropolitan National Bank Tower (Arkansas's tallest) carry the commercial core. The Arkansas State Capitol atop Capitol Hill, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, the Cathedral of St. Andrew, the Governor's Mansion, Curran Hall, and Mount Holly Cemetery close the civic circuit. Little Rock Central High School, where the 1957 integration crisis unfolded, the Daisy Bates House command post, and Taborian Hall at the 9th Street area close the walk.

The William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum cantilevers toward the Arkansas River in front of you. This is the presidential library of Bill Clinton, who served as the 42nd president of the United States from 1993 to 2001.

  • Little Rock Central High School

Little Rock Central High School, an accredited comprehensive public high school in Little Rock, Arkansas, rises in front of you. This building was the site of the Little Rock Crisis in 1957, after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that segregation by race in public schools was unconstitutional three years earlier, a moment in the period of heightened activism known as the civil rights movement.

    Arkansas Governor's Mansion

Arkansas' governor and first family live here at 1800 Center Street, in the official residence known as the Arkansas Governor's Mansion. This house anchors the Governor's Mansion Historic District and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

    Arkansas State Capitol

Atop Capitol Hill, at the eastern end of the Capitol Mall in Little Rock, the Arkansas State Capitol houses the Arkansas General Assembly and the seat of the state government. Imagine how this place began as an idea: in 1899 St. Louis architect George R. Mann brought drawings to Governor Daniel W. Jones, designs he had first won with in 1896 for the Montana State Capitol in Helena.

Above you at 425 West Capitol Avenue rises a 40-story skyscraper, the tallest building in Arkansas. At 547 feet (167 m) it is the tallest building in Arkansas.
