Back in 1796 Moses Cleaveland's survey team came ashore near this spot, and Settlers Landing station, inside Settlers Landing Park, now carries the name. This is the stop named for the adjacent historical site where Moses Cleaveland and his surveying team disembarked from the Cuyahoga River to survey the city in 1796. The station itself opened on July 10, 1996, when light rail service was extended 2.2 miles (3.5 km) from Tower City through The Flats and along the lakefront.
That extension was designated the Waterfront Line, an actual continuation of the Blue and Green Lines; trains leaving this station toward Tower City continue along Blue or Green Line routes to Shaker Heights. You can see how this stop is the first station beyond Tower City on the Waterfront Line, snug inside the park with two side platforms.
