Trains ran from the former Cleveland station in front of you here in The Flats from 1898. This isn’t a new feature of the neighborhood — the station was completed in 1898 by the Cleveland Terminal and Valley Railroad. The CT&V had announced in February 1896 that it would construct new, larger freight and passenger facilities, demolishing the existing depot to make way for this building.
By September 1897 the designs were finalized and construction was underway. The station formally opened on July 30, 1898, with trains operating from here and the CT&V moving its offices into the building. In 1909 the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad took control of the Cleveland Terminal and Valley, and the B&O continued passenger service from this station until June 16, 1934.
The very next day the B&O moved service to the nearby Cleveland Union Terminal, becoming the fourth railroad in Cleveland to do so. The B&O ran passenger service from here until June 16, 1934, then shifted the very next day to Cleveland Union Terminal for you to trace.
