Peabody and Stearns designed the Daniel Webster Robinson House at 384-388 Main Street in 1885. Designed by the Boston firm of Peabody and Stearns and built in 1885–1886 for prepared lumber magnate Daniel Webster Robinson, this three‑story, wood‑frame building reads like a Queen Anne storybook. Its basically rectangular massing is playfully obscured by the asymmetrical shapes and rich detailing of the period.
Look to the right corner of the front facade and you’ll see a low projecting turret on the second level; across most of the front runs a generous wraparound porch with a roofed corner pavilion at the left. On the right, a covered porch continues into a shingled porte‑cochere framed by a rounded opening. Above, the front‑facing cross gable sets a window into the roof, and below that a corbel‑like bulge adds a flourish of texture.
Since 1931 the house has served as home to the Alpha Iota chapter of Alpha Chi Omega affiliated with the University of Vermont, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. You're on the north side of Main Street, just west of the UVM campus, between South William and South Willard Streets—turn a corner and the campus rises ahead of you.
