Six indoor courts and 12 outdoor ones make up the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa. This 2,000-seat arena officially opened on December 14, 2001 and was named for Mike Case, a local developer and philanthropist. The center cost $10 million and, just two years later, in 2003 it was named the top facility in the country by the United States Tennis Association.
Look around: the complex holds six indoor courts and 12 outdoor courts, complete with electronic scoreboards, lighting for night competition and training facilities. Webcams around the facility let matches be streamed over the internet, so these courts are built to be both seen and to perform. This place has hosted the 2002 WAC Championship and two national NCAA tournaments and, as noted in the facility's story, will soon host the combined Men's and Women's Division I Championships.
It has helped the university's athletes rise; before the center opened the men's program's highest ranking was 31, and by 2007 they reached 16, even counting a third-ranked player nationally as of January 2008. More recently donor Tom Kivisto provided funds to add sun cover to the outdoor courts. Picture six indoor courts and twelve outdoor ones, webcams streaming every match live.
