Vermont white granite sheathes the Grand America Hotel, the largest hotel in Salt Lake City, at 555 South Main Street. Commissioned and built in 2001 by Earl Holding, it was designed by Frank Nicholson; the architect was Smallwood Reynolds Stewart and Stewart, and Frank Nicholson was the interior designer. Its façade is sheathed in 300,000 square feet of Vermont white granite; step closer and imagine the English all-wool carpets underfoot and the Milanese and Venetian chandeliers overhead.
It was Salt Lake City's only Five Diamond hotel as ranked by the American Automobile Association in 2012. Rising 24 floors and 328 feet (100 m) to the top of its flag pole, it is the eighth-tallest building here and the tallest hotel in the city. Inside you will find 775 rooms and suites, numerous conference rooms totaling 75,000 square feet (7,000 m2) of flexible meeting space, a Conde Nast Traveler-rated full-service spa, outdoor and indoor pools, exercise facilities, the Garden Cafe restaurant, the Lobby Lounge and the Gibson Lounge bar.
