Three city blocks and over 23 acres downtown make up City Creek Center, which opened in March 2012 near Temple Square. Opened on March 22, 2012, City Creek occupies over 23 acres across portions of three city blocks and stitches together an upscale open-air shopping mall, a grocery store, office and residential buildings. As you step in, notice the mall’s foliage-lined walkway and the simulated stream meant to recreate City Creek, an important water source for the early settlers of Salt Lake City.
The center combines some 890,000 square feet of retail with residential and office components, and it arranges its public life around two outdoor plazas: Regent Court on the east block and Richards Court on the west. The project was undertaken by City Creek Reserve, Inc. and Property Reserve, Inc., both commercial real estate entities of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, together with Simon Property Group. Property Reserve invested in the housing and parking elements, while TCI owns and operates the shopping center itself - a partnership that helps explain why this mall is closed on Sunday.
