Completed in 2012, the Rich Street Bridge carries U.S. Route 62 and Ohio State Route 3 across the Scioto River, linking downtown's Rich Street with Town Street in Franklinton. Behind that clean, contemporary line of steel and concrete is a story of continuity: it replaced the old Town Street Bridge, the 1917–2009 span whose original eastern anchor remains here.
That anchor has been reutilized as the Prow, an observation platform in the Scioto Mile Promenade park — a deliberate nod to the site’s past. Around the Prow you’ll find stone benches, lanterns, and a small grove of birch trees, elements that shape your experience of the riverfront. The 1917 bridge was more than a crossing; it was part of the Scioto River Bridge Group, listed on the Columbus Register of Historic Properties in 1983 and later proposed as part of the Columbus Civic Center Historic District, nominated to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
