Lake Champlain was the intended view when the Follett House rose at 63 College Street in 1840, and its temple front still faces west toward the water. This last surviving grand 19th-century lakeside mansion in the city is also one of the state’s finest examples of Greek Revival architecture, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Since 1885 it has seen commercial and institutional uses, but the form that greets you remains resolutely 19th century: a 2½‑story brick structure with a gabled roof, clapboarded exterior, and stone foundation.
The main facade is five bays wide, dominated by a projecting Greek temple front with six fluted Doric columns supporting an entablature and gabled pediment. Behind that temple front the ground‑floor windows are long, and above them a balcony stretches across the second floor. A secondary entrance faces College Street under a small portico, and the roof is crowned by a square cupola that was added later.
