Ahead, 28 acres of riverside green stretch out along the Boise River, Idaho, home to picnic grounds, bocce courts, and a playground. Managed by the Boise Parks and Recreation Department, this riverside green space offers picnic facilities, bocce courts, and a playground, sitting at approximately 2,700 feet (825 m) above sea level. It was constructed 108 years ago in 1918 by the Boise Commercial Club on land leased from the Boise School District and opened as the Boise Tourist Campground, complete with overnight camping facilities.
The campground closed briefly in 1938, then the property reopened as a day-use urban park called Boise Municipal Park. For a stretch of time the city's minor league ballpark—Airway Park, later "Braves Field"—occupied what had been the park's southwest portion; that wooden venue stood from 1939 through 1963 before it was razed and the site became the headquarters of the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. In 2016 the park was rededicated in honor of three-time Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong.
