Charlotte Street gives you the Old Blacksmith Shop, a reconstruction of an outbuilding recorded here in 1771. This modest structure is a reconstruction of an outbuilding that stood here during the British possession of Florida — the earliest record we have dates to 1771, during that British Period. In 1782 the property was sold to David Morran, who rented one of the buildings to a blacksmith, and a year later the 1783 Treaty of Paris returned Florida to Spain.
David Morran returned to England, leaving his wife to manage the sale of his properties; she was unable to complete that task and Jesse Fish and James Henderson ultimately handled the sale to the Spaniards. In the 20th century, the Historic St. Augustine Preservation Board began reconstructing the Blacksmith Shop in late 1967; the home then on the site, called the Judson Property, was demolished in 1967 and the Board completed the reconstruction in 1968. The Preservation Board’s in-house crew built the 12 x 16 foot wooden outbuilding from pine logs.
