Brothers Edward and Michael Roth ran the Roth Cigar Factory at 30 Mira Mar Court. This unassuming building housed cigar production run by brothers Edward and Michael Roth from 1923 to 1938. Cigar making in Sarasota began in 1911 with the Sarasota Cigar Company, and by 1913 the Roths had established their business, first operating a factory and newsstand at 220 Main Street.
Edward Roth acquired the land for this separate factory in 1920; the building was constructed in 1922 and completed the following year, the same time the nearby Mira Mar Apartments (the DeMarcay Hotel) and the Mira Mar Hotel were finished, all designed by Thomas Reed Martin. Cigars were rolled here and then sold at the Roths' main store at 214 Main Street until the company vacated in 1938 and relocated to Pineapple Avenue. In recognition of its history, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 22, 1984.
