Until 2014 the depot also served as the northern terminus, offices, and gift shop of the Santa Fe Southern Railway, a tourist and freight carrying short line railroad. Today the Depot links you to the city by Santa Fe Trails routes 2, 4, and M, by a downtown shuttle, by the North Central Regional Transit District shuttle to Taos, and by a shuttle to the Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino in Pojoaque Pueblo. Each Rail Runner station bears an icon expressing community identity; here the chosen icon is a locomotive, honoring the history of the rail yard at the site — though the station is currently devoid of the Rail Runner's distinctive signage that usually names and displays that icon.
