A Braum's milk bottle still crowns the Milk Bottle Grocery, the triangular 1930 store at 2426 N. Classen Boulevard. The store was constructed in 1930 and occupies a corner lot as one of the few triangular buildings in Oklahoma City, because Classen Boulevard cuts diagonally through the city's street grid. From 1940 until 1948 it was known as the Triangle Grocery.
Around 1948 a large metal Braum's milk bottle was added atop the roof. The bottle was designed to draw attention to the store, as the tall bottle would be visible to automobile traffic along Classen Boulevard when that street was part of U.S. Route 66; it also served as an advertisement for the dairy industry. The statue changed the store's identity and it became the Milk Bottle Grocery.
The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 5, 1998. The Saigon Baguette, a Vietnamese bánh mì shop, occupied the space for several years, and in August 2014 it was announced the building would be restored to its original appearance. Notice the oversized Braum's milk bottle perched on the roof, built to catch the attention of passing Route 66 drivers below.
