Your eyes meet the USS Wisconsin (BB-64), an Iowa-class battleship built for the United States Navy in the 1940s and preserved today as a museum ship. Completed in 1944, she served in the Pacific Theater, taking part in the Philippines campaign and the Battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and she shelled the Japanese home islands shortly before the war ended in September 1945. Later, during the Korean War, Wisconsin shelled North Korean targets in support of United Nations and South Korean ground operations before being decommissioned.
Reactivated in 1986 and modernized, she sailed again into conflict for Operation Desert Storm in January–February 1991. Wisconsin was last decommissioned in September 1991 after a total of 14 years in active service, and she earned six battle stars for service in World War II and Korea plus a Navy Unit Commendation for her January/February 1991 Gulf War service. Stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 17 March 2006, she was later donated for permanent use as a museum ship.
As of 2026, you can find her operated by Nauticus in Norfolk, Virginia, her steel decks rising toward the museum that now hosts her.
