Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald once called this large Craftsman-style house home, at 919 Felder Ave in the Cloverdale Historic District of Montgomery, Alabama, and you are at its porch. This two-story house was built in 1904 and would become the last home where the Fitzgerald family lived together. You can almost feel the years 1931 to 1932 when Scott and Zelda made this house their own: during that stay Scott worked on his novel Tender is the Night (1934) and Zelda began writing Save Me the Waltz (1932).
After the Fitzgeralds relocated to Baltimore, Maryland in 1932, the house was converted into four apartments and served other uses for decades. In 1986, when the house faced destruction, Leslie and Julian McPhillips bought and donated the property, saving it and establishing the Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald Museum you see today. Inside, the museum displays Fitzgerald memorabilia, including letters, personal possessions, and photographs that link back to those years here.
