Peacock Park spreads out in front of you, the waterfront green space at the heart of old Coconut Grove, named for Charles and Isabella Peacock, who operated the first hotel on Biscayne Bay here in the 1880s. The Peacock Inn was the social center of the tiny pioneer community that coalesced in the Grove in the final decades of the nineteenth century, a gathering place for the Bahamian workers, yacht people, and intellectual homesteaders who made this the first settled neighborhood in what would become Miami. The park occupies the site of that original hotel, which burned down in 1925.
Today Peacock Park is a modest but lovely bayfront space: picnic tables under the palms, a small playground, and direct water access to Biscayne Bay at a boat ramp and small marina. The view across the bay toward the downtown skyline is extraordinary — a reminder of how close the grove's subtropical village character sits to the glass towers of Brickell. On weekends, the park fills with families, and the Coconut Grove Sailing Club launches from the adjacent marina.
The water here is calm and green, and on a clear day you can see across to Key Biscayne.
