Attached to Memorial Coliseum on the Avenue of Champions, the Joe Craft Center in front of you opened in January 2007 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. This building carries the name of businessman and philanthropist Joe Craft, a Hazard, Kentucky native who pledged $6 million toward the completion of the $30 million project. Ground was broken here in August 2005 and the 102,000 ft2 structure was completed on January 11, 2007.
As you listen, imagine the separate practice courts inside for the men’s and women’s basketball programs, the support spaces and coaches’ offices that surround them, and the state-of-the-art video rooms where game film is studied. The facility also houses a ticket office and athletic administration offices, alongside separate men’s and women’s locker rooms and new coaches’ offices. Inside, Memorial Coliseum gained a renovated 17,500 ft2 of space to better support volleyball, gymnastics, and other sports; the center’s arrival freed up more ample room for those teams.
