Jasper Yeates, lawyer and justice, lived from 1775 to 1817 in the brick townhouse you face, now home to WRKY Radio, in Lancaster. This four-story, four-bay brick townhouse was built between 1765 and 1766 in the Georgian style. From 1775 to 1817 it was the home of Jasper Yeates (1745–1817), a prominent Pennsylvania lawyer and justice.
Note how the proportions and brickwork still speak of that Georgian design even after later changes. In 1882 the house was expanded to add the fourth floor and converted to commercial uses; nearly a century later it was restored with work completed between 1978 and 1979. The building’s historical significance was recognized when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
It is also known as the home of WRKY Radio. Today you stand before layers of history: 18th-century construction, a long occupation by Yeates, a late-19th-century vertical expansion, then late-20th-century restoration.
