Heritage Plaza, the postmodern skyscraper in front of you, rises 53 floors above the Skyline District of downtown Houston. Towering 762 feet (232 m) with 53 floors, it ranks as the 5th-tallest building in Houston, the 8th-tallest in Texas, and the 60th-tallest in the United States. Designed by Houston-based M. Nasr & Partners P.C., the tower was completed in 1987 at the tail end of the collapse of the Texas real estate, banking, and oil industries in the 1980s.
It was the last major office building completed downtown in that era and remained the most recently completed major skyscraper for nearly 15 years, until 1500 Louisiana Street rose in 2002. Inside, Heritage Plaza contains 1,150,000 square feet (107,000 m2) of leasable space; a vast majority sat vacant until Texaco leased 550,000 square feet (51,000 m2) in 1989, and the tower served as Texaco's U.S. headquarters for 12 years. In 2001 it became the U.S. headquarters of the ChevronTexaco corporation, and in 2005 Goddard Investment Group acquired the building.
Notice that this tower stood as downtown's newest skyscraper for nearly fifteen years, until 1500 Louisiana Street rose in 2002.
