Baseball came to this spot in 1907, and FNB Field now holds it, here on City Island in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. This is the home field of the Harrisburg Senators, the Double-A Eastern League affiliate of the Washington Nationals, and was the home stadium of Penn FC of the USL. The original structure here was built in 1987 and called Riverside Stadium until 2004; it seats 6,187.
The ballpark received a $45 million renovation that began in 2008, but it also sits on the exact spot where baseball was played earlier in the century — other Harrisburg teams played here from 1907 to 1952. City Island itself is a 62-acre waterfront park and sports complex: volleyball courts, softball fields, a football/soccer field, water golf, nature tails, jogging paths, cycling paths and two marinas are all part of the setting. You can spot the Pride of the Susquehanna paddlewheel riverboat, a food court called RiverSide Village, and the miniature train that runs around the island for tours.
The original ballpark is a steel-and-aluminum structure, with added seating along first base and box seats in foul territory and in front of the grandstands behind home. Notice the field, then the river, marinas and park facilities spreading beyond it.
