Welcome to the Golden Triangle, the wedge-shaped neighborhood south of Civic Center Park where you'll find Denver's most concentrated cultural district: three major museums, dozens of galleries, and a growing number of artist studios. The neighborhood takes its name from the triangular shape created by Colfax Avenue, Broadway, and Speer Boulevard — a configuration that left this area slightly isolated from the surrounding grid, contributing to its development as a destination district. The three museums anchoring it — the Denver Art Museum, History Colorado Center, and Clyfford Still Museum — were all built or expanded between 2006 and 2012.
The Clyfford Still Museum deserves particular notice: Still stipulated in his will that his entire estate — ninety-four percent of his lifetime output, more than 800 paintings and 2,400 works on paper — go to a city that would build a permanent museum for his work alone. Denver won that competition in 2004, and the resulting museum, opened in 2011, is one of the most carefully conceived single-artist museums in the world.
