This 17,556-seat arena greets you, opened in 1975 as Riverfront Coliseum beside the old Riverfront Stadium. Completed in September 1975 and originally named Riverfront Coliseum because of its placement next to Riverfront Stadium, this building seats 17,556 people and remains the largest indoor arena in the Greater Cincinnati region, with 346,100 square feet (32,150 m2) of space. Over the years its name has changed with the city’s tides — it became The Crown in 1997, then Firstar Center in 1999 after Firstar Bank assumed naming rights, and took on the name U.S. Bank Arena in 2002 following Firstar’s merger with U.S. Bank, a name it kept until 2019.
The arena underwent a $14 million renovation project in 1997. Its current main tenant is the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, and you can imagine the echo of hockey here — the Cincinnati Stingers of the World Hockey Association called this home from 1975 to 1979. It has also hosted concerts, political rallies, tennis tournaments, figure skating, professional wrestling, traveling circus and rodeo shows, and more.
