Pyramid-topped and trimmed with LED strips, 50 Fountain Plaza rises 17 stories in front of you, the eighth tallest building in Buffalo. At 275 feet (85 m) and 17 stories tall, it's the eighth tallest building in the city. Its twin, 40 Fountain Plaza—formerly the Key Center South Tower—sits next door, four stories shorter and joined to this building by a two-story glass atrium that encloses 18,800 square feet of retail space.
The complex dropped the Key Center name after KeyBank moved out and is now simply Fountain Plaza. Both towers wear distinctive pyramid tops trimmed with LED lighting strips; at night those strips illuminate and can change color for specific occasions or holidays. In front of the two towers a large fountain animates the square through the summer; in winter that same space becomes an outdoor ice rink, free to the public.
This building once housed KeyBank’s Buffalo operations and today houses operations for Labatt Brewing Company's North American breweries sales and marketing, among other tenants. Picture the fountain animating this plaza each summer and becoming a free public ice rink each winter, beneath the twin towers' pyramid tops.
