Ahead of you rises Yost Ice Arena, once the Fielding H. Yost Field House, tucked into the University of Michigan campus here in Ann Arbor. Built in 1923 and named for longtime football coach and athletic director Fielding H. Yost, this building began life as a field house. For decades it housed the Michigan men's basketball team until the Crisler Center opened in 1967, and it also sheltered the university track teams until 1973.
In 1973 the Field House was converted into an ice arena, replacing the outdated Michigan Coliseum, and it has been the home of the Michigan men's ice hockey team ever since. The arena also became home to Michigan's women's ice hockey club team when that team was established in 1994. Today the University of Michigan's Senior and Collegiate synchronized skating and freestyle teams practice here, alongside local high school teams, recreational leagues (AAAHA), and university intramural hockey.
